Rachelle LaPointeI am an artist. Not because I want to be; because i have to be.
Rachelle was born in the United States, spent her early years in Northern Alberta, (where she won her first art contest at the age of 6) and her formative years in Collingwood Ont, which she considers her hometown and has been used as 'homebase' for most of her adult life as she explored and travelled different cities and countries. Currently she resides in Montreal, Que. with her two young sons and a very active imagination.
Rachelle has been involved in the fine arts for most of her life studying painting, drawing and sculpture throughout all of her education including the University of Western Ontario. She studied graphic design at Humber College in Toronto and and after graduation, worked in the field for many years . In Montreal, she has studied for a number of years at the Visual Arts Centre, Westmount, and has workedintimately with anart mentor. She has been a member the Arts Club of Montreal and ArtsNDG gallery and exhibits regularly.
Rachelle continually expands and pushes her artistic exploration, vision and evolution.
Commenting on her personal style, she explains,
For me it is important that my artwork provokes emotions, and (though it could be) that it is not just another pretty picture. Some of my work is quite textural, almost 3-D, adding dimension and a sculptural quality to it. I like this element because it encourages the viewer to 'cross the line' and touch the piece rather than just stand back and look at it."
"I love when human emotion and the artist's subconscience (me) comes out in a painting, whether the subject matter be a landscape, still life,or abstract and I am fascinated by the unbidden influence of the 'soul' . How it mutates the literal subject, based on a physical reality, and changes it into a unique interpretation. This transferrence of my inner self to a canvas makes each work a very intimate part of me and is one of the most diffiucult aspects to put aside or at least control when exhibiting."
"I want people to feel, and feel deeply. If my paintings can do that then I am satisfied that my artwork is a success."
Through public & private exhibitions Rachelle's clientele has become international with buyers in Canada, Europe and the United States.
