Jared OlsonI’ve been living in Montreal now for six years. Since my graduation from Concordia University in 2001, I have started my own business, Jared Olson Fine Art, and have been marketing and exhibiting all around Montreal in restaurants and cafes, also in the Hilton at Dorval Airport. I have also donated my paintings to various fundraisers and charities over the years.
From my home studio I have been developing my painting process of natural abstraction. By this I mean capturing the beauty of Nature’s randomness on canvas by pouring paint and letting it flow and pool. Compositionally, I only control the size of the canvas and the direction of the paint. I manipulate the amount and texture of the paint and use the properties of colour to create the illusion of depth. However, once I’ve poured the paint, I do not manipulate it after: the patterns and gradations occur naturally on their own according to the Laws of Nature.
It is this inherent beauty that I am interested in. If this beauty is found in Nature, and we are also of Nature, then that beauty is inherent in us as well: we do not live on this Earth, we are a part of it. The energies that support this are found in science and physics and my paintings are the physical representations of those energies. We are capable of creating such beauty in our lives with just our thoughts and we just have to look to Nature to be inspired.
