"When I come across an object that causes a reaction within my senses I know
instantaneously how the final image will surface and what core emotion will take over. To begin cultivating this image I have to begin by peeling back its layers until I arrive to its bare bone. The process from there isn't a pretty one but unlike any growth or transformation, it takes time for the beauty to prevail."
- Laura Hosaluk
Emotion is her motive, she aims to strike a chord that is held deep inside all of us, to urge us to question mediocrity; to unveil an eerie truth and to challenge the inept imagery found everywhere. Hosaluk takes the advantage of combining materials that have their own unique story, then merges them into her paintings.
Growing up on an acreage just outside of Saskatoon, Laura had the opportunity to absorb the arts-not only from her always-supportive mother, Marilyn-- but also her father, Michael, an internationally recognized woodturner whose work resides in Buckingham Palace, and from the many students and colleagues who have come through his workshop. This is where the foundation of her education began, In 1994 Laura began attending the Emma Lake International Collaboration. A widely recognized biannual five-day creative experience with 100 professional artists in residence.
With the strong desire not to continue to re-create what has happened in the past Hosaluk challenges and stretches her perceptions of the experiences and creative musings in her day-to day life. Delivering an intensity of emotion
leaving an impressions in one's state of mind or should we use consciousness? Hosaluk's need to create through texture, color, depth and
thought allows her to break through any boundary of language, visually exploring the relationships she has gained from the world around her.
